Not played but seen lots of streams of players. I know Im not commenting on the full game but whats striking me so far from watching is:

  • no strategic playing. Its like everyones just "run n gun". In my mind what separates BF from COD is COD is for those who like to just play without consideration for team or squad strategy whereas BF is for those who play as squads and teams. The only one who Ive seen do this so far is Stonemountain. Hopefully the lack of strategy is just eagerness to try the game out and not a change in general player attitude.
  • small maps. Hopefully we get a number of larger maps (I know Firestorm has been mentioned) because the time to death is frustratingly quick. Id also like to see maps where the vehicles take more of a role than just driving up one or two streets before being blown up.
  • my other worry is how old my PC is compared to the game requirements. Im going to have to look at that tonight

Okay I managed to play a round today before going out. Not as much as I wanted to, mainly because of EA's change to using SecureBoot as an anti cheat mechanism. Having Daemon Tools installed is also a huge nono, as well as other minor processes it didnt like.

After watching a good half a dozen youtube fixes for various pop up issues BF6 had on loading, rebooting more times than a premier league team, mucking about in the BIOS, I eventually got it to work. All told, excluding toilet breaks, lunch and general swearing, I reckon it took a good 3-4 hours out of my life.

My main concern is that EA are expecting young, old, whatever, people to mess about in their BIOS to get the game to work. In my mind thats just not right. Im all for anti cheating, but leaving it up to people who have probably never even seen the BIOS screen to go in and make changes to play their game, is frankly disgraceful.

what Binary said, fully agree about BIOS. I just went there to check the secure boot issue and decided I need to study more before doing anything. Current setting says "secure boot: custom" whatever it means...Maybe next weekend.

I have a few important software on my pc for other purposes, and they are not Microsoft verified programs. Some of them are commercial stuff, some built by semipro hobbyists. I suspect secure boot wouldn't let them start, so I'm coming to a decision why bother at all just for beta's sake. What a shame from EA.

Hi guys, just tried batch 2 of the beta and had some fun in team death-match so I realized I missed you guys a lot so, came back here to see if there are more getting into BF 6 :)
So far, I think it feels pretty good and easy on the computer to run. Didn't do much changes but still have the same old trying to find all the settings for everything again.

I have secure boot from start with my computer. Was enabled from when I got it - so had no problem there. If, a big "if" this helps to keep cheaters down, it might be good. Seems like it is the way forward with playing online. Perhaps time to get into multi boot or have a dedicated gaming only rig....

I've pretty much decided I'll pre-order the basic game and hopefully a bunch of TOGA will also play it. The only thing stopping me doing it right now is...well, lack of skills I suppose. I turned 60 last month and for some years I've been thinking Im nowhere near as good as I was 20 or 30 years ago (and dont even get me started on the subject of sex!). Back then I used to think I was good enough anyway, against your average player in UT, Quake, HL2DM or even CS.
Nowadays I just feel that the eyes don't see the enemies quick enough. The hand doesn't turn the mouse quick enough and overshoots the mark, then the finger isn't 'pulling the trigger' quick enough. Couple that with no real squad leadership, strategy or support, plus idiots like the bloke half an hour ago who just joined our squad then in chat typing about how he'd just joined and was already higher on the leaderboard than the rest of his sh*t squad, about how come I've got only xx kills against xx deaths, and despite yourself you kind of get a bit fed up with the whole thing.

It occurred to me that I could save myself £60 and just go play BF3, BF4 or BF2042 and have as good an experience with kit and classes already well levelled up. However it also occurred to me that as well as being pretty shite at Battlefield, I'm also weak willed and like I said, I'll probably end up buying the bloody game anyway lol :)

Get in the tanks early on and blast buildings - makes up a bit for skills and is plenty of fun :) I passed 51, and yeah, struggling to compete with the savviest people. Aim is poor, but you can use that wisdom of causing mayhem to lure, bait and blow enemies up ;) I have had a few good runs already and I would really like to have people you could talk to, because most games are quite infernal and you run around like a headless chicken trying to familiarize the maps. Learn sniper spots and how to use all gadgets and why they switched around the gadgets - gah.

OK, after three days, my experience is this:
Day 1, fun and felt like a good game
Day 2 and three, really horrible netcode. Bad synch, poor hit detections and often you get into the see one hit, computer registers several.
The mag dump the enemy int he back, only to get insta shot happened a lot. Like really a lot.
You run around a corner and hits register after, as if you were shot around the corner
The feeling that you hit enemies and nothing happens and they hit you and you insta dies.
Several maps felt too cramped up and a bit too much like COD, and on those instances the netcode doesn't feel like it manages to get the job done.

That's exactly what Jr McT told me today. Great first weekend, awful this second one. He considered buying it based on the first weekend but is now having serious doubts, also too much like COD. Which he plays/has played a lot, but why buy BF to play COD lol

I was in Poland for all of August and the laptop I had for work was not good enough to try the beta on unfortunately :(

Been keeping a close eye on it though and it does look like a proper Battlefield game to me :)

Wow, I still have a login to TOGA, Hey Weston Warrior, so hows everyone enjoying BF6? I hate that I keep making a portal, and EA keep changing the goal posts, so have to keep redoing and publishing. Does TOGA have a portal setup and ready to populate?
